Burn Smarter This Season
Here are some tips on how to burn efficiently and cost effectively, whilst limiting your impact on the environment.Ready to Burn
Make sure that the firewood you purchase is ‘Ready to Burn’ certified. This guarantees the firewood is below 20% moisture content for a more efficient burn. Our firewood typically sits at just 8–12%.Store logs properly
Firewood should be kept in a dry, well-ventilated area, such as a log store or garage. Logs left exposed to the elements are at risk of rot and mould.
Annual sweeping
Getting your chimney swept annually removes soot and creosote buildup that restrict airflow, allowing for a cleaner, hotter and more cost-effective burn.
Top down method
Using the top down method to start your fire improves airflow and helps your stove heat up faster, producing significantly less smoke.
Bigger purchases
If you have the space, buying in larger quantities is more cost-effective than purchasing little and often. We recommend ordering as much wood as your storage allows.
Defra approved appliance
Consider upgrading older stoves or open fires to a Defra approved woodburning stove.
These appliances are designed for high efficiency, producing a cleaner burn with lower emissions.
