Burn Smarter This Season

Here are some tips on how to burn efficiently and cost effectively, whilst limiting your impact on the environment.

Ready to Burn

Make sure that the firewood you purchase is 'Ready to Burn' certified. This guarantees the firewood is below 20% moisture content, for a more eff
icient burn. Our firewood sits at just 8-12%

Store logs properly

Firewood should be kept in a dry, well ventilated area, e.g. a log store or garage. Logs left open to the elements are at risk of rot and mould.

Annual sweeping

Getting your chimney swept annually removes soot and creosote buildup that restricts airflow, allowing for a cleaner, hotter and more cost effective burn.

Top down method

Using the top down method to get your fire going ensures better oxygen supply, helping to heat your stove up quickly with much less smoke

Bigger purchases

If you have the space, making a bigger purchase will work out cheaper than buying little and often. We typically recommend ordering as much wood as possible for the storage space available.

Defra approved appliance

Consider upgrading any open fires or older stoves to a Defra approved woodburning stove. These stoves are designed for high efficiency, achieving a cleaner burn and producing significantly lower emissions.
